An Organization for Persons with Disabilities
50 years ago, in 1972, hanging out on a makeshift roadside bench, two young fast friends and classmates saw and felt, with a heavy heart, society's misgivings. Allah had enriched their hearts and minds with the much-needed compassion. Both saw, with despair, the miseries of poor people and suffering men and women, a general disorder that wasn’t to be ignored. The dust and dirt filled the air, but both felt helpless.
They wanted to do something but did not know quite well what and how to do it, so they both wowed. They wowed one day to undo the miseries and sufferings they witnessed then. It was during the early seventies, soon after the completion of their tenth grade.
Thirty years later, in 2003, one had earned his renown as a Judge and Chief Justice at Sindh High Court, later a supreme court judge, and the other became a known Ophthalmologist. Just then, as if by a divine decree, a friend offered a sixteen hundred square feet, two-bedroom first-floor apartment as a kick-start
And so, a charitable eye healthcare clinic was born. It started as a Welfare Association to manage Sheikh Aziz-ur-Rehman Memorial Eye Clinic. (2003 - 2015), at Bahadurabad, Karachi - Pakistan.
The administrative structure morphed into Vision Trust in 2009 and, in 2016, moved over to Jamshed Town, courtesy of K&N’s Foundation. And thus, Khairun’nisa Eye Hospital came into existence.
The well-equipped secondary to tertiary level eye healthcare facility where about 100+ patients are seen daily, along with about 15-20 surgeries. More than 80% of the patients are treated free of cost or on a subsided basis. To date, 100,359 patients sought consultation, and more than 24,233 surgeries have been performed and counting.
Fifty years on, from the day both young boys wowed, by the grace of Allah, in the year 2022, we have grown into a company called Vision Healthcare Foundation, registered Under section 42 of the Company Act of 2017, with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan.
We intend to widen our scope of services to humanity, by including all manners and forms of disabilities, to transform into a Comprehensive Disability Management Centre (DMC) at Sub-district Pindi-Gheb, District Attock, Punjab-Pakistan.
It is about 90 Km, an hour's driving distance, from Islamabad Motorway Exchange, on M14.
The land is owned and dedicated to the cause of the Disabilities Management Center, by Justice ® Mushir Alam and his family.
We are done with the concept-forming stage. This will be followed by preparing a Master Plan by a team of architects, engineers, and designers. Depending on the availability of funds. We hope to achieve that by the end of 2023.
We hope and pray to commence the construction phase by early 2024.
May Allah give us enough time, strength, and the opportunity to create a much bigger and better facility than the one He has led us to create, and manage here in Karachi-Pakistan. Bigger and better in scope and accessible to more and more of the less fortunate. May Allah accept our humble endeavors and let us make a difference in the lives of more and more people we come across, in discharging our fabulous wow.
Let's join hands to serve the under-served or un-served. Let us help remove the barriers the disabled have in accessing quality life.
